Description Ardashir Motamed 2003-04-14 03:57:48 UTC
From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.2.1) Gecko/20030225

Description of problem:
okay, i installed redhat 9 as a clean install and my wireless ethernet card did
not start up (worked perfectly on 8.0 btw). heres a copy of what my system log
looked like:

Apr 13 03:27:36 Another2 pcmcia:
/lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/drivers/pcmcia/yenta_socket.o: insmod
/lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/drivers/pcmcia/yenta_socket.o failed
Apr 13 03:27:36 Another2 pcmcia:
/lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/drivers/pcmcia/yenta_socket.o: insmod yenta_socket
failed
Apr 13 03:27:36 Another2 pcmcia: Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect
module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
Apr 13 03:27:36 Another2 pcmcia: You may find more information in syslog
or the output from dmesg
Apr 13 03:27:37 Another2 pcmcia:
/lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/drivers/pcmcia/ds.o: init_module: Operation not
permitted
Apr 13 03:27:37 Another2 pcmcia:
/lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/drivers/pcmcia/ds.o: insmod
/lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/drivers/pcmcia/ds.o failed
Apr 13 03:27:37 Another2 pcmcia:
/lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/drivers/pcmcia/ds.o: insmod ds failed

after that i downgraded to the older kernel on 8.0 and the older pcmcia-cs
package and everything works fine

2.
3.

Actual Results: the card does not light up on boot, its not detected at all

Expected Results: pcmcia errors on boot, no internet connection

Comment 1 Arjan van de Ven 2003-04-14 08:47:46 UTC
what IRQ does your cardbus controller get?
(lspci -vvx should tell you)

Comment 2 Ardashir Motamed 2003-04-15 05:09:53 UTC
okay, no irq is assigned, the card doesnt light up. it acts as if there is no
device plugged into the pcmcia slot. is that what your asking?

Comment 3 Ardashir Motamed 2003-04-15 05:28:48 UTC
heres the output of lspci -vvx

Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 0

irq 0 -> no interrupt -> RHL9 refuses to use it
