sorry for uncompleteness of my comment but I pressed the wron button

When I start Fedora the splash screen appeared in F17, now after upgrading and updating, I get only the bar on the lower part of the screen...

Running Intel graphic with i915 driver

I made a test starting the computer with kernel from F17 and splash screen was o.k., but mouse behaviour was somewhat erratic, i.e. it disappears when moved over a link or a folder in Thunderbird (just examples) that is not present in F18 kernel.

Plymouth may not be the culprit.

I suspect that bug has to be assigned to xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.20.17 and maybe related to Bug 901709 - Cannot recovery from suspend

xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.20.19-1.fc18.i686 has been updated  but no improvement.

I have another system that splash fine with a different graphic driver

Please note that this machine has been updated from a F17 installation.

a) I have a black & white screen at grub menu with no bar on the bottom of the screen
b) echoed kernel is older than loaded
c) standard image (the fedora logo) is not yet shown, instead I have the usual bar as rhgb was not working.

point b) of comment #7 seems to be solved issuing :
 grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg

point a) and b) of comment #7 has been solved by tuning /etc/default/grub that is not updated from F17 to F18

Reverting the bug to plymouth, I have no charge image at boot time.
How can I debug this issue??

and can you attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log ?

Basically, I'm wondering if your default theme is set to "text" or "charge".  Also, do you have plymouth-theme-charge installed?

and now it works as expected. Of course previous kernel start with the blue bar at screen bottom

Still don't understand why I get an echo showing an older kernel of the loaded one:
