Link: Added: This issue is a dependency of JBPAPP-9188 Madhumita, Is it possible for you to provide your automated xml ? I tried multiple times on windows 7 and it creates shortcuts just fine. Thanks Attachment: Added: auto.xml Hi Danesh,
Please find attached automated xml used.I verified again that I could not locate the shortcut in Start->All Programs.I tested this on QE lab Windows 2008 R2 machine(Service Pack 1).
Madhumita, Seems your auto.xml itself is lacking the shortcut creation. Can you redo an installation, make sure to select "Create shortcuts", then create an auto.xml and feed it through that. Thanks Danesh,
I did the reinstallation and it worked with the new automated xml on Windows.but here question comes how I ever got the corrupt automated xml which I uploaded here since I never personally tampered with the xml script. After some probing I found that the problem arises when I try to reuse the automated xml created from the console installation.
It gets generated without the shortcut creation steps.
I agree that we do not see shortcuts created in a console installation probably because any user would only go for console installation when hey are working on non-GUI system. However should we not provide options for shortcut creation in the automated xml generated as it could be reused in a GUI based system?
Madhumita, Ah correct, console mode doesnt not support shortcuts. We had come across this a while back and just dismissed it with the same reasoning you provided above, that most users in cli will not avail it. However now that there is a use case in that they can use that automation install in GUI mode, perhaps its worth it to implement this feature. We are looking into it now and trying to implement it.
