Additional info:
$ rpm -e vtk-devel
error: Failed dependencies:
	libvtkNetCDF_cxx.so()(64bit) is needed by (installed) vtk-5.8.0-6.el6.x86_64

/usr/lib64/vtk/libvtkNetCDF_cxx.so is not a symlink and should go into the main package.

It looks like upstream produced another library without a SOVERSION and Orion fixed it in 5.10.0-2 package:

* Thu May 24 2012 Orion Poplawski <orion.com> - 5.10.0-2 - Add patch to add soname to libvtkNetCDF_cxx

Please port the fix to EPEL.

vtk-5.8.0-6.el6.1 has been submitted as an update for Fedora EPEL 6.

* was pushed to the Fedora EPEL 6 testing repository,
* should be available at your local mirror within two days.
Update it with:

as soon as you are able to.
