Description John Zitkus 2000-02-02 02:43:38 UTC
I have an IBM Aptiva 2174-590. The video card is Number 9 model SR9 with
a Savage4 processor and 8 MB of video memory SDRAM. The RAMDAC is
Internal DAC.

When I tried to install Red Hat 6.1, I could not use the graphical
installation method. The system would hang. So I used the text
installation method. That worked just fine so I thought. I can boot
Linux and shut the system down just fine if I never issue "startx". When
I issue "startx" GNOME gets started (whether I installed it or not) and it
seems to work just fine until I go to Logout or shutdown the system. When
the Graphics interface ends, my system hangs. The power button won't even
work. I have to unplug the machine to turn it off. Can you help me?

Thanks,
-John Zitkus.

the savage4 will not be supported until Red Hat Linux 6.2.
