Description Glen Turner 2013-02-13 05:23:18 UTC
Description of problem:

Typing "man paris-traceroute" fails to display the manual page installed by the package.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

$ rpm -q paris-traceroute
paris-traceroute-0.92-2.fc18.x86_64

How reproducible:

Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. sudo yum install paris-traceroute
2. man paris-traceroute

Actual results:

$ man paris-traceroute
No manual entry for paris-traceroute

Expected results:

$ man paris-traceroute
PARIS-TRACEROUTE(8)         System Manager's Manual        PARIS-TRACEROUTE(8)
NAME
       paris-traceroute - print the IP-level routes between two Internet
       hosts.

Additional info:

$ rpm -q -l paris-traceroute | grep man
/usr/share/man/man1/paris-traceroute.8.gz
Note mismatch between directory -- "/man1/" -- and the filename -- ".8.". This mismatch is the likely cause of the issue. To illustrate that this is the likely cause:
# cd /usr/share/man/man8
# ln -s ../man1/paris-traceroute.8.gz
$ man paris-traceroute
PARIS-TRACEROUTE(8)         System Manager's Manual        PARIS-TRACEROUTE(8)
NAME
       paris-traceroute - print the IP-level routes between two Internet
       hosts.

Workaround:

gzip -d -c /usr/share/man/man1/paris-traceroute.8.gz | groff -man -Tascii
