Description John Heidemann 2013-02-14 05:35:33 UTC
Description of problem:
Reminders for upcoming events show up late after laptop/suspend resume on Linux (Fedora 17) with Thunderbird 17 and Lightning 1.9 (specifically: thunderbird-17.0.2-1.fc17.x86_64 and thunderbird-lightning-1.9-1.fc17.x86_64).
This problem is very serious, since the whole point of a calendar,
for many people, is that it reminds them on time.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
thunderbird-17.0.2-1.fc17.x86_64 and thunderbird-lightning-1.9-1.fc17.x86_64

How reproducible:
every time

Steps to Reproduce:
1. start thunderbird at noon
2. enter event for 1pm
3. suspend laptop at 12:15pm until 12:45pm
4. watch event pop up the reminder dialog at 1:15pm, 15 minutes later than it should (by default it should come 15 minutes before the event)

Actual results:
sadness and/or embarsement that you now missed your meeting
because the reminder was late

Expected results:
reminder on time and everyone praises you for your promptness

Additional info:
Bug report and proposed fix in mozilla at
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=841072

That patch not applied because this problem is Linux-specific and the fix adds a 60-second timer.

While a 60-second timer is sad (will cost battery life),
missed meetings is sadder.

I will submit the patch from there as a patch to the fedora package.

Comment 3 Orion Poplawski 2013-02-14 18:40:55 UTC
Thanks. 1.9.1 should be out very soon, so I'll push this out with that update.

Comment 4 John Heidemann 2013-03-19 16:51:48 UTC
As per comments upstream https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=757762, this bug will not be fixed there until
Lightning 2.4 for Thunderbird 22.

Perhaps Fedora can pick up the patch for now?

Package thunderbird-lightning-1.9.1-1.fc17:
* should fix your issue,
* was pushed to the Fedora 17 testing repository,
* should be available at your local mirror within two days.
Update it with:
# su -c 'yum update --enablerepo=updates-testing thunderbird-lightning-1.9.1-1.fc17'
as soon as you are able to.
Please go to the following url:

Comment 8 Fedora End Of Life 2013-07-04 07:46:08 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 17 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 17. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '17'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 17's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 17 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the
'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 17's end of life.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Marking as closed as per comment #7.

Comment 10 John Heidemann 2013-07-04 17:31:41 UTC
(Not sure if CURRENTRELEASE is the right resolution for "fixed in updates")
