I'm still getting this error after upgrading to RedHat 9 with kernel-2.4.20-18.9. I also observe this problem in kernel: kernel: Linux version 2.4.20-20.8 (bhcompile.redhat.com) (gcc version 3.2 20020903 (Red Hat Linux 8.0 3.2-7)) Apparently, when the screensaver kicks in under gnome, or when I rearranged the desktop items under KDE, I get this error. Unfortunately, the system locks up minutes later and cannot even respond to a ping. Here is part of the system log right up to a freeze and power cycle. I started getting this same error after I updated to kernel 2.4.20- 20.7. (I am running Redhat 7.3 on an i686). I finally tracked it down to the screensaver. Only the 3-d screensavers would do it. I tested each of them -- morph3d and space both caused the error and the display locked up (I assume that pipes would also cause the problem, but I didn't check). The only way regain access was to ssh from another machine and shutdown (except one time when the network services stopped working and I had to kill the power). When I booted to an old kernel (2.4.18-27.7.x) all of the screensavers worked fine. I have not tried any other 3-d applications. RHL 7 & 8 are now EOL. There's a large number of variables that could be the cause of this bug (xscreensaver, XFree86...) the kernel DRM is common between RHL 7/8/9, so if you can reproduce with RHL9, feel free to reopen. I'm still getting this error on RedHat 9 with kernel 2.4.20-27.9, so I'm re-opening. It does seem to happen less now (although unreal tournament seems to consistently trigger it). Thanks for the bug report. However, Red Hat no longer maintains this version of the product. Please upgrade to the latest version and open a new bug if the problem persists. The Fedora Legacy project (http://fedoralegacy.org/) maintains some older releases, and if you believe this bug is interesting to them, please report the problem in the bug tracker at: http://bugzilla.fedora.us/ |
