Just a speculation for now, but it sounds like perhaps the timing is off on something in the driver. Please attach your X server log file and config file to the bug report using bugzilla file attachment. I do not have laptop hardware, however I do believe I have a prototype Radeon M3 engineering sample somewhere. In order to maximize the chances of someone being able to investigate this problem, figure out what is causing it and hopefully be able to fix it as well, it would be a good idea to file the bug report upstream in XFree86's bugzilla at: http://bugs.xfree86.org and then paste the upstream URL here so I can keep an eye on the upstream report as well. Thanks in advance. Created attachment 91874 [details]

Here is the XF config generated by Redhat
You are not using a Red Hat kernel, and while this bug probably does not have anything at all to do with the kernel, I must ask you to please reproduce it while booted into the official Red Hat Linux kernel, and attach your newest X server log. While it is unlikely to make any difference, there is a remote possibility of something, and we only officially support systems which run the binary software we supply. Xlog from Redhat kernel
The problem with the screen noise still happens with the stock Redhat provivded
kernel.
Since this bugzilla report was filed, there have been several major updates to the X Window System, which may resolve this issue. Users who have experienced this problem are encouraged to upgrade to the latest version of Fedora Core, which can be obtained from: http://fedora.redhat.com If this issue turns out to still be reproduceable in the latest version of Fedora Core, please file a bug report in the X.Org bugzilla located at http://bugs.freedesktop.org in the "xorg" component. Once you've filed your bug report to X.Org, if you paste the new bug URL here, Red Hat will continue to track the issue in the centralized X.Org bug tracker, and will review any bug fixes that become available for consideration in future updates. |
