Can you please attach /tmp/anaconda.log from when you hit this problem to this bug report? Thanks.

Comment 6 Gabriel M. Elder 2013-04-12 05:24:36 UTC
This is happening because the anaconda gui wants to be run with elevated privileges. However, in a livecd gui terminal environment, I'm finding that the DISPLAY environment variable is not even set for the root user when I "su -". The underlying issue (heh - "root cause") is the fact that root is unable to connect to the liveuser's X desktop session, as it is lacking the proper X authorization.

Here's a workaround that I've tested and seems to allow me to run the anaconda gui installer:

0) open a terminal shell in the liveuser's gui desktop environment

1) enter the following commands, in order, exactly:

xauth list
su -
export DISPLAY=:0
touch /root/.Xauthority
xauth add :0 . <substitute hexkey from xauth list localhost output here>
/usr/share/anaconda/gnome/fedora-welcome &

2) use the installer gui

AFAICT, this particular breakage is resulting from a misstep, either during boot or login, whereby the root user is not automatically inheriting the user's X auth privileges. FWIW, I'm experiencing this on the most recent alt/updated live-respin image, which, at the time of this writing is from 3/26. I do not think this problem was present in the F18 beta release installer image, if that helps narrow down the regression time frame. HTH.

This is still an issue in the latest live-respin (20130416).

Scratch that. Upon further testing, it is working consistently for me as expected in this iso image (root xauth and desktop environment gui installer). Confirmation, anyone?

Comment 9 Moez Roy 2013-04-28 02:23:01 UTC
Cannot reproduce

Comment 10 Rob 2013-07-01 16:11:24 UTC
I am still getting this error.
