Bug 919493

Summary: The v7-1.5-32 Info Test Fails on RHEL5.9 GA

Doc Text:
Cause: v7 did not have the complete GA kernel release information for RHEL 5.9 in it's local files. Consequence: If the SUT could not reach the Red Hat Partner's FTP site for an update, it would fail the info test/ Fix: v7 1.5 R33 includes an updated xml file with an entry for the GA kernel release included in RHEL 5.9. Result: The info test should pass kernel verification.

v7 results package

Description of problem:
The v7-1.5-32 certification kit info test fails on RHEL5.9 GA due to the following error:
Section Kernel - Check OS kernel build, version
+ rpm -ql kernel-xen-2.6.18-348.el5
Error: Kernel is 2.6.18-348 and not Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 5.9 GA (None)
Boot Parameters: ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 rhgb quiet
End Section

Based on the info I've seen kernel-2.6.18-348 is the GA kernel, yet the error above reports it is not.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): v7-1.5-32

How reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install RHEL5.9 GA
2. Install the v7-1.5-32 certification kit components
3. Launch one of the tests

Actual results: The info test fails on RHEL5.9 GA reporting the kernel is not GA.

Expected results: Info test should pass with RHEL5.9 GA.

Additional info: I have attached a v7 results package.

Comment 1 Caspar Zhang 2013-03-11 03:33:40 UTC
are you able to establish network env on the test system? If yes, it will fetch an updated kernelInfo.xml containing correct kernel versions to the test and then the info test should PASS.

Comment 2 Mark Coskey 2013-03-11 15:12:04 UTC
Caspar,

Having the server connected to the internet to obtain an update is not a feasible solution for our certification test environment.

Comment 3 Rob Landry 2013-03-11 20:44:20 UTC
Hi Mark,

I think feature bug #915815 would address this in the future, it allows for locally hosted kernelinfo.xml files which should allow disconnected test environments to share a kernelinfo.xml without reaching out to RH.

If that feature sounds reasonable to you, I could close this as duplicate?

Comment 4 Mark Coskey 2013-03-12 15:13:19 UTC
Rob,

In the future a standalone rpm containing the kernelinfo.xml which could be installed on the local file system would be the best solution.

In the mean time we need a solution for our RHEL5.9 certs that does not involve connecting the server to the internet.

Comment 6 Rob Landry 2013-03-13 19:25:31 UTC
Hi Mark,

We're going to go ahead and do a v7-1.5 spin to update kernelinfo.xml using this bug. In parallel we will also determine the longer term solution in 915815 as a future feature.

While waiting for the errata if you have outstanding certs with results on the 5.9 ga kernel reporting a failure these can be submitted and we'll resolve do a manual review to confirm the cause of the info test failure was the versioning.

Comment 8 Petr Beňas 2013-03-14 15:07:07 UTC
Reproduced in v7-1.5-32.el5 and verified in v7-1.5-33.el5.

Comment 9 Mark Coskey 2013-03-18 18:18:24 UTC
Rob,

When will the new v7-1.5 kit be available?

Comment 10 Rob Landry 2013-03-19 20:36:36 UTC
Hey Mark, the expectation is later this week.

If it would be useful I could attach an unsigned package here, but it wont' be official until it makes it all the way through onto the portal :/

Comment 11 Mark Coskey 2013-03-19 20:49:38 UTC
I'll wait for the official release later this week. Thanks
