Did you read http://awesome.naquadah.org/wiki/Awesome_3.4_to_3.5 ? Can you reproduce the issue with a fresh/clean rc.lua? The other thing is, there might be a conflict with the default desktop running. Does Awesome work for you if selected from the login screen? > Did you read http://awesome.naquadah.org/wiki/Awesome_3.4_to_3.5? Yes. > Can you reproduce the issue with a fresh/clean rc.lua? YES. > Does Awesome work for you if selected from the login screen? Don`t work, tested in lxdm. I just stumbled upon something similar and in my case it seems to be a missing dependency. Search your logs for: WARNING **: Failed to load shared library 'libcairo-gobject.so.2' referenced by the typelib: libcairo-gobject.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Install cairo-gobject and awesome should start. If this is indeed the case for you please confirm. Otherwise I will file a new report. If my understanding of lua-lgi is right awesome's 'require("lgi").cairo' leads to dlopen() of libcairo-gobject through lua-lgi -> libgirepository -> glib's g_module_open().
So adding an explicit dependency to awesome seems correct. Thomas?

Thank you, Lars. It works.
Thomas, please add a depends cairo-gobject.
