Description Pete Travis 2013-06-23 05:42:36 UTC
NetworkManager now offers hotspot functionality, allowing users to easily share a non-wireless connection over a wireless interface.

As of F19, NetworkManager allows the creation and usage of both bridge and bond virtual devices.

These features should be documented in the System Administrator's guide.

Thank you, Pete. Stephen, you might want to take a look at this feature request when you have a minute.

Comment 2 Pete Travis 2013-06-23 06:09:16 UTC
Hi Stephen, another quick observation for you.

There's a note reading:
"At the time of writing, NetworkManager does not detect IP aliases in ifcfg files. For example, if ifcfg-eth0 and ifcfg-eth0:1 files are present, NetworkManager creates two connections, which will cause confusion. "

I'm reasonably confident that NetworkManager now obeys address directives in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-devname. I *think* that .../ifcfg-devname:0 style aliases are not supported, but successfully ignored.

Hello Pete

Re comment 0

1] "hotspot functionality"
We tried to document this before, here:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=537739

I will test again soon. I need to test a few other Wi-Fi things.

2] Bridge
http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora_Draft_Documentation/0.1/html/Networking_Guide/ch-Configure_Network_Bridging.html

I need to update the screenshot, the bridge priority was incorrect at 128, should be 32768. It is fixed in NetworkManager-0.9.9.1-4.git20140313.el7, which is in Rawhide already.

3] Bond

Re comment 2

This is now in the Reference Guide:
http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora_Draft_Documentation/0.1/html/System_Administrators_Reference_Guide/sect-networkscripts-interfaces.html#sect-networkscripts-interfaces-alias

I will ask someone to confirm that while reviewing that chapter.

I'm closing this bug as part of a Bugzilla cleanup effort. The most likely reason is that the bug has been opened either against a component we no longer publish, or against Release Notes for an EOL release.
