Description Gordon Watson 2013-08-31 12:46:57 EDT
Description of problem:

Regarding Live Storage Migration, the RHEV Admin Guide does not currently make a reference to the case of a VM being based off of a template (created as a thinly provisioned VM). When such a VM has been created from a template, the template has to be copied to the new storage domain before the VM's disk images can be moved. The template is not moved automatically.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

RHEV-M 3.2.2

How reproducible:

Every time.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Create a VM based off of a template, selecting 'Thin' for Template Provisioning under 'Resource Allocation'.

2. Add a disk to the VM.

3. Start the VM.

4. Select/highlight the disk and click 'Move'.

Actual results:

Expected results:

Additional info:

The sequence to copy a template is something like this;

Select Templates tab.
Highlight template.
Select Disks tab in the lower pane.
Highlight disk.
‘Copy’.
Copy Disk(s) window, select SD, etc.

Added topic: "Copying a Template's Virtual Hard Disk"

Updated existing topic: "Moving a Virtual Machine Hard Disk Between Data Domains"
Added:
"If your virtual disk is attached to a virtual machine that was thinly provisioned from a template, the template's disks must be copied to any data domain that you move the virtual machine disks to."
