Description Dale R. Worley 2013-09-12 02:34:48 UTC
Description of problem:

When entering a bug, one must select a component value. However, the instructions are rather deceptive regarding how to properly do the selection. (to the point that I get it wrong the first time I attempt to enter any bug).

This could be fixed by changing the text "Type to find component name" to "type to find component name and then click on it in the list below"

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Bugzilla 4.4

How reproducible:
with Firefox 23.0.1 on Fedora Linux 19.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to https://bugzilla.redhat.com, select "New" (meaning, enter new bug), select "Fedora" as classification, select "Fedora" as product.
2. In the field after "component", enter e.g. "cups-pdf". The word "cups-pdf" shows immediately below the field, *appearing to be an element of the scrolling list*, *highlighted*. But *do not* click on the word, because it appears to be selected already, doesn't it?
3. Fill in the remaining fields of the bug report.
4. Click on "Submit Bug".

Actual results:
Bugzilla says that "component" wasn't selected.

Expected results:
User believes that he has entered the component value (it shows up *highlighted* doesn't it?) leading him to moan "What does it want me to do???"

Correcting the actual/expected results descriptions:

Actual results:
Bugzilla says that "component" wasn't selected.
User believes that he has entered the component value (it shows up
*highlighted* doesn't it?) leading him to moan "What does it want me to
do???"

Expected results:
Bugzilla accepts the entered bug with the component shown in the "component" field.

Confirmed issue. Setting priority to medium, as there's a simple workaround (though the behaviour is certainly a little annoying til you get used to it).

Comment 3 Simon Green 2013-12-11 07:05:51 UTC
Both Jason and myself are unable to reproduce this now on the test site (using Firefox 24 and 25 respectively). I suspect some changes in Bugzilla 4.4.1012 with regards to the sub components might have fixed this.

Comment 4 Dale R. Worley 2013-12-11 19:21:52 UTC
It seems to be working for me, using Fedora 25 and https://bugzilla.redhat.com
