Please make sure you have a corresponding initramfs file in /boot with that kernel, and that your grub configuration file has it listed in the initrd line.
Yep. the initrd was not installed. I do not know how that happened. 'yum update' must have run into some problems. Anyroad, I removed and reinstalled the kernel.

Anyroad, I removed and reinstalled > the kernel. There's an issue somewhere in the rpm/grubby/dracut interaction. There are already multiple bugs open for that, so we'll close this out. Thanks.
