Description Scott Dowdle 2013-09-26 22:36:49 UTC
Description of problem:

Upgraded to KDE 4.11.1 on Fedora 19. (updated as of 09/26/13) and have rebooted my system and can reproduce. The problem is that I prefer certain applications on certain desktops and to have the task manager in the panel "Sorting: By Desktop". This has worked well for many years... but something with this particular build of 4.11.1 has it acting oddly. (right-click on task manager area of the panel, select Task Manager Settings, General Tab, Grouping and Sorting, select Sorting: By Desktop)

I periodically will mark an application window to appear on all desktops and that seems to make the odd behavior flare up.

Basically the applications are not displayed in the panel in desktop order... and sometimes an application marked to show on all desktops does not appear first. Sometimes switching desktops has caused the order of applications in the taskbar area to dynamical reorder for no apparent reason.

I've seen this behavior on two different machines so I don't think it is some odd config bitrot.

I'm hoping others can duplicate.

Picture showing behavior

Screenshot shows that the konsole window and the Task Manager settings window are on the same desktop but do not sorted as they should be.

konsole and task manager are on desktop 1
konversation is on desktop 4
Dolphine is on desktop 6
Firefox is on desktop 2

So the order on the panel should be:
konsole, task manager settings, Firefox, konversation, dolphin

But instead as shown it is:
konsole, konversation, dolphin, firefox, task manager settings

Exactly the same behaviour here (arch x86_64). The feature has worked for years and years before the "update" and is now broken which I find quite annoying.

Comment 3 Scott Dowdle 2013-11-18 22:03:34 UTC
This seems to be fixed now. I'm running KDE 4.11.3 on Fedora 20. I assume it was fixed in 4.11.3 in releases for Fedora 19 as well.

On my system (Fedora 19 with KDE 4.11.3) it is still broken. Would you mind reopening it?

Reopened upon request of #4

Comment 6 Fedora End Of Life 2015-01-09 19:59:52 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 19 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 19. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now this bug will
be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '19'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 19 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 7 Fedora End Of Life 2015-02-17 17:22:16 UTC
Fedora 19 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-01-06. Fedora 19 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
