As described in https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1017869 , abrt-applet needs to be restarted after abrt preferences are changed. There is no user-visible indication that this is true, so it appears to users that the settings changes are simply ignored.
Thank you for the report. Which one of the following solutions is better from UX point of view? - instantly apply the changes in configuration as you sate in bug #1017869 comment #7 - notify a user that abrt-applet needs to be restarted (and provide a way how to do this)
Instant application would be consistent with the rest of the desktop, and would remove the requirement for the "Apply" button in the UI.
