Doc Text:
Feature: Provide support for auditing events in standardized formats in Ceilometer and add support in oslo so that every OpenStack component can use it. Reason: Ceilometer is a reliable, core centralized service with the ability to track usage information towards statistical usage analysis and billing. Many of the projects are seeing similar “auditing” requirements but now with the emphasis on tracking access to services (by users and other services) for the purposes of security auditing. The support in Oslo provides the ability for any OpenStack service to audit usage information. Result: Leverage the design (agents/meters, etc.) and logging facilities already in Ceilometer and enable users to configure additional meters to allow event data to be produced in one or more (standard) formats. The configuration may also provide the location as to where the logs are created for each meter type.

Description RHOS Integration 2013-12-12 13:30:00 UTC
Cloned from launchpad blueprint https://blueprints.launchpad.net/nova/+spec/support-standard-audit-formats.

Description:

Common support for auditing is currently merged in Oslo and is included in Ceilometer. Ceilometer received the support in havana with this blueprint:

https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ceilometer/+spec/support-standard-audit-formats

The details for the support in Ceilometer are here:
https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/Ceilometer/blueprints/support-standard-audit-formats#Provide_support_for_auditing_events_in_standardized_formats

The support in Oslo provides the ability for any OpenStack service to audit usage information. This blueprint is for synching the same support that's currently in Ceilometer into Nova, leveraging the existing design to enable different types of event auditing standards (and to provide for different purposes and views on events) in Nova.

Moving to POST based on upstream status (Implemented).

Comment 8 Summer Long 2014-06-30 01:20:41 UTC
Hi Vladvan, are you sure this needs to be in the release notes? My doc notes are saying that there's no user impact (no client changes, etc)? thanks, Summer

Comment 9 Vladan Popovic 2014-06-30 09:11:30 UTC
Hi Summer, I wasn't sure if there's any user impact with this, so I filled in the doc text. This RFE standardizes auditing events to track usage information and enables additional user defined metrics, so I thought it might impact the end user after all, but again, not sure at all.
