Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Gordan Bobic 2013-12-16 14:56:04 UTC
Description of problem:
bitmap-miscfixed-fonts package contained the MiscFixed font is missing. This wouldn't be such a big deal if this wasn't the most legible small font on high-dpi screens.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
RHEL7 public beta.

Comment 2 Bill Nottingham 2013-12-16 21:33:45 UTC
I'm seeing this in the repo here.

<arch>/os/Packages/bitmap-fixed-fonts-0.3-20.el7.noarch.rpm

Comment 3 Gordan Bobic 2013-12-16 23:34:27 UTC
It doesn't seem to contain the MiscFixed font, or at least it doesn't make the font available for selection in gnome-terminal.

Comment 4 Pravin Satpute 2013-12-17 08:02:01 UTC
In the merge review of bitmap-fonts #225617 . We extracted ucs-miscfixed-fonts package from it.

Comment 5 Gordan Bobic 2013-12-17 12:05:18 UTC
Meaning what, exactly?

bitmap-fixed-fonts-0.3-20.el7 contains only 9x15 font.

The smallest font in bitmap-miscfixed-fonts-0.3-15.el6 is 4x6, with the smallest perfectly formed, legible size being 5x8, which is a massive improvement on density over 9x15.

Without a legible small font using low res screens (<= 1366x768) for any kind of command line work is far more difficult than it should be.

Comment 6 Pravin Satpute 2013-12-18 05:27:20 UTC
We have modified bitmap-fonts as per packaging guideline.

There is no change, just we have one extra package now, that is ucs-miscfixed-fonts.

So everything is intact.

Apologies for bit confusing line in #4

Comment 7 Gordan Bobic 2013-12-18 07:19:28 UTC
Except there appears to be no ucs-miscfixed-fonts package on the RHEL7b ISOs.

Comment 8 Bill Nottingham 2013-12-18 18:29:45 UTC
Gordan - it should be in the Optional repo for you at the moment.

Pravin: are you OK with this being installed with @fonts?

Comment 9 Pravin Satpute 2013-12-19 06:24:45 UTC
Yes, it should be. Thanks Bill.
