Description Josep 2013-12-23 15:15:04 UTC
After upgrding to the latest Linux kernel (kernel-3.12.5-302.fc20.x86_64), the function key for dimming the LCD screen is not working. Brightening the LCD does work, but not dimming (although the screen dos flick a bit).
Dimming the LCD works flawlessly using GNOME settings.

Everything works flawlessly with the previous kernel (kernel-3.11.10-301.fc20.x86_64).

The hardware is an ASUS Zenbook UX31A.

Comment 1 Benjamin Gerfelder 2014-01-18 18:57:46 UTC
Confirming the issue is still present on Zenbook UX31A with kernel version

3.12.7-300.fc20.x86_64

The exact same problem is also present on Acer Aspire One 756, same kernel version.

Comment 2 Josep 2014-01-23 12:41:12 UTC
I confirm also that this is the case with the latest kernels (3.12.8-300 here), although I realized this might not be a kernel issue, but a gnome or GDM one.

When switching to the text console (ctr-alt-f2), the dim key works as expected. The key also works if I use i3 as the window manager instead of gnome.

Benjamin, could you test if the key works on the text console? Thanks!

Any suggestions to what component file this bug, if it is not the kernel?

*********** MASS BUG UPDATE **************

We apologize for the inconvenience. There is a large number of bugs to go through and several of them have gone stale. Due to this, we are doing a mass bug update across all of the Fedora 20 kernel bugs.

Fedora 20 has now been rebased to 3.13.4-200.fc20. Please test this kernel update and let us know if you issue has been resolved or if it is still present with the newer kernel.

If you experience different issues, please open a new bug report for those.

Comment 4 Josep 2014-02-25 19:36:28 UTC
This is still an issue with kernel 3.13.4-200.fc20.x86_64, but I'd need some guidance to determine whether this is a kernel issue or if it perhaps should be filed under another component, given what's written in comment #2.

Sorry, I must have forgotten to change the status.

Still an issue in kernel 3.13.6-200.fc20.x86_64
