Description Don Swaner 2014-01-03 19:28:42 UTC
Description of problem:
I was running a yum update from a terminal, as a sudo by a wheel group user. There was nothing
else I was doing on the system. Some days ago, I believe I updated the default grubenv "by
hand", to point to another default boot, and it's been working as expected. I only replaced the
default name and didn't touch the rest of the file, but the length of the default entry probably
changed. I now know I should use grub2-set-default or grub2-editenv to change the default.

Comment 11 Don Swaner 2014-01-03 19:48:08 UTC
Now when I try to set the grub2 default boot, I'm getting a "grub2-editenv: error: environment block too small". This happens both with grub2-set-default and with grub2-editenv. ls -l shows size of grubenv as 1041. I made backups of previous versions, and their sizes are 1024 and 1032.

Comment 12 Don Swaner 2014-01-03 20:00:42 UTC
I edited grubenv "by hand", replacing the default. It works fine for me, as it did before. The default entry I'm setting is:
"Fedora release 19 (Schrödinger’s Cat) (on /dev/sdb5)" (without the quotes).

Comment 13 Don Swaner 2014-01-04 13:20:17 UTC
Deleted grubenv and recreated it using grub2-editenv. Also set saved_default to "Fedora release 19 (Schrödinger’s Cat) (on /dev/sdb5)". All worked OK. Apparently my grubenv got corrupted, perhaps from my hand edit.

Comment 14 Vít Ondruch 2014-01-17 08:17:43 UTC
I am getting "grub2-editenv: error: environment block too small." every kernel update and I have not ever touched grubenv file. And I see this error already for some while.

Comment 15 Fedora End Of Life 2015-05-29 10:18:51 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 20 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 20. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '20'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 20 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.
