Description Sammy 2014-02-12 00:59:11 UTC
Kernel 3.13.x introduced the support for Intel MIC Card Driver.
I looked at the 3.13.2 kernel for f20 in koji and the driver is not enabled.

Specficically, I need:

CONFIG_INTEL_MIC_CARD=y or m
CONFIG_INTEL_MIC_HOST=m

These are under misc options.

The reason is that in a few days I am getting a DELL Precision 5610 with the
Intel Xeon Phi co-processor card and the above modules should support the
driver recognition and user space (I can figure out how to automate the
loading of modules etc.)

Thanks

I've enabled them both as modules in Fedora git. Will be in the next build. Thanks.

Comment 2 Sammy 2014-02-18 14:18:18 UTC
Thank you very much. They do compile fine in the kernel rpm.
The Intel developers also put the mpssd deamon and scripts for
starting the daemon under the Documentation tree (mic subdirectory),
with a Makefile to build and install them under /usr/sbin/.
They use the older rc.d scripts for enabling the daemon. I can do
this myself but for the long run it would be nice to have a separate
package to include these.
Thanks

Comment 3 Josh Boyer 2014-02-18 14:57:51 UTC
I agree a separate package would be better. You are more than welcome to split it out and shepard one through the Fedora review process, or find someone else willing to do so.

Comment 4 Sammy 2014-02-18 15:04:15 UTC
Ok. When I get my machine and install Fedora 20 with the new kernel etc.
I will debug everything and make sure I get it to work properly. After
that I can suggest/shepard packaging.
Thanks
