It is my opinion that this is a problem relating to vga_switcheroo not handling the dynamic power situation properly. On 3 occasions (2 of which were a new kernel being used for the first time), the system booted without the DIS-Audio configure, and on these occasions, I could switch to the radeon graphics card (albeit without the HDMI audio).
O.K. I presume from Linux kernel 3,13 onwards, the default behaviour of vgaswitcheroo is to provide information only as to the state of the graphics processors, the graphics processors being handled dynamically, by default. The radeon graphics processor becomes active (and works) in two situation, viz. (1) Use of DRI_PRIME=1 in conjunction with software which uses libaries such as VDPAU, that makes use of graphics processors. (2) Connecting a monitor/television via the HDMI connector. One thing that does not work for me, as compared to previous kernels (3.12 and earlier), is that it does not appear possible to use the radeon to display on the laptop monitor screen. I also need to check HDMI audio - I cannot do so at the moment, as there is no suitable TV./monitor here. It has not appeared on the Gnoome Control Centre sound panel since Linux kernel 13.3 - but is this a feature or a bug? Cheers.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 20 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 20. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '20'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 20 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Please close this bug report - I raised the problem originally because I was unaware of the change from manually switching graphics processor via vgaswitcheroo to the dynamic handling of the graphics processors and the use of DRI_PRIME=1, as I wrote in the first part of comment #2. (I do have a problem with the radeon audio though, but I need to raise this as a separate bug.) Thanks and cheers.
