It is now possible to search for VMs by the information in the description field:

Confirmed: Able to search for VMs by information in the description field. 

Updated Admin Guide appendix on Searching for VMs: Property = "description"; Type = "String", Description (Reference) = "Keywords or text describing the virtual machine, optionally used when creating the virtual machine."
