Description James Slagle 2014-06-05 23:39:29 UTC
Description of problem:
Used staypuft, started some vm's on the private foreman provisioning network so that they would be auto discovered. They appeared to be discovered fine, and show up under Discovered Hosts in the UI, but do not show up under All hosts.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
[root@staypuft ~]# rpm -q foreman-installer-staypuft
foreman-installer-staypuft-0.0.14-1.el6ost.noarch

How reproducible:
reproduced with 4 discovered hosts. they all show up under Discovered, but not under All.

This is intentional, the workflow in Foreman is you need to actually initiate provisioning. All Hosts only shows you created hosts (hosts ready to be provisioned).

In future, we would like to implement policy-based provisioning. E.g. if a host has >40GB ram, provision it automatically as database server. Then you'd see it in All Hosts soon (after policy is triggered). We are not there yet.

Since it's by design, marking closed as notabug

Comment 4 James Slagle 2014-06-06 13:51:15 UTC
Ok, so to be clear here, you're saying:

that "All Hosts" in fact does not mean, or is intended to display All Hosts?

Does anyone else think this *may* be confusing to an actual user of Foreman?

Comment 5 James Slagle 2014-06-06 13:54:41 UTC
if "All Hosts" does not mean "All Hosts" that is a pretty big usability bug IMO.

Comment 6 Lukas Zapletal 2014-06-09 10:41:14 UTC
On our defence, Foreman does not include discovery plugin, most users do not use this plugin yet. We should consider renaming All Hosts to Provisioned Hosts or something else, or we might be showing them all in All Hosts (grayed out or something). I will bring this on the list.

Comment 9 Mike Burns 2015-04-29 15:16:27 UTC
This is something that needs fixing in foreman and we won't get it in time for any new version of RHEL-OSP Installer, so closing wontfix
