Description Weimin Wu 2003-11-24 21:45:22 EST
Description of problem:
I want to install RH9 on my servers. For some reasons, I must use
install-scripts(ks.cfg) to complete the installation. And there is an
Adaptec aic7899 SCSI on my mainboard.

So I make the ks.cfg in a floppy disk as follows:
lang en_US
langsupport --default en_US en_US
keyboard us
mouse genericps/2
timezone --utc Asia/Shanghai
rootpw --iscrypted $1$Nu5VO5RK$Xp7p8K2CfmvmqzcAQqI5k.
bootloader --useLilo --linear --location=mbr
device scsi aic7xxx
part /boot --size=1 --noformat --onpart sda1
part swap --size=256 --ondisk sda
part / --fstype ext3 --size=6000 --ondisk sda
part /usr --fstype ext3 --size=11211 --grow --ondisk sda
auth --useshadow --enablemd5
firewall --disabled
xconfig --depth 16 --resolution 800x600 --defaultdesktop=KDE

Then boot system with RH9 CD, and type:
linux ks=floppy noprobe

When loading aic7xxx, there is an error as follow:
Install exited abnormally -- Recieved signal 11
Sending termination signals ... done
Sending kill signals ... done
unmouting file systems
you may safely reboot your system

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:
Every time

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Insert RH9 CD and boot system
2.Insert a floppy disk with ks.cfg
3.Type "linux ks=floppy noprobe" and return
Actual results:
When loading aic7xxx, installer exited abnormally.

Expected results:
Installation completes successfully.

Additional info:
I have done some other attempt:
1. If I donot use ks.cfg and install RH9 manually, it works normally
and can load aic7xxx correctly.
2. If I use ks.cfg but delete the line "device scsi aic7xxx", and
type "linux ks=floppy" after booting, it also works well.
3. If I use ks.cfg but delete the line "device scsi aic7xxx", and
type "linux ks=floppy noprobe" after booting, it cannot find hard
disk and installation failed.

Just let the device get manually probed. This should be fixed in FC1
