Description djl002 2000-04-30 14:28:53 EDT
Simple....base install of RH6.2 KDE Workstation. When dialed into kppp kde
icons do not work. Cannot start apps from mini terminal or from
kvt/konsole. Error message is cannot connect to X server 0:0... I am
dumbfounded. No configuration of this unit has been done yet. Only thing
changed is linked /dev/modem to /dev/ttys1. Have tried several installs
no luck. Have managed to make it work once....by accident. Had networking
configured for my NIC (tulip) incorrectly, and ran netconfig to fix.
Dialup worked with KDE. Problem returned next boot. Again the same fix
worked. So ran linuxconf and reconfigured, and rebooted and it worked.
When reloaded system, made same options, (including putting in wrong
network config) and previous fix didn't work. ?????

Bug upgraded to high priority and high severity as data loss can occur in
certain conditions. If the panel is restarted, it does not come back and the
machine cannot be shutdown correctly. This will result in loss of any unsaved
changes. PPPD cannot be killed except by reboot.

This bug has previously been reported. Look at kdenetwork bugs. However, the
querry does not work when searching for bugs now. See bugreports 4286 and 2990.
Typically, you ISP will assign you a host name of "yourloginname.provider.sub".
For instance I dial into inlink and my username is djl002 so: djl002.inlink.com.

FIXED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
