Description Erinn Looney-Triggs 2014-09-08 18:12:24 UTC
Description of problem:
Would it be possible to update wkhtmltopdf to the latest release in EPEL 7?

Release Notes:
https://github.com/wkhtmltopdf/wkhtmltopdf/releases/tag/0.12.1

Comment 1 Lubomir Rintel 2014-09-09 08:27:32 UTC
In theory, yes.

However, we tend to be rather conservative when it comes to version bumps in EPEL as we avoid regressions as much as possible. (It's probably not much of an issue, since el7 is not very widely adopted yet though). We prefer to have a good reason for such changes.

What are the specific features of the new version you're looking for?

Comment 2 Erinn Looney-Triggs 2014-09-10 15:25:27 UTC
On this one I am just the messenger. I have a group of developers that are evaluating 0.12.1 and I wanted to see if instead of building up our own package we could use yours. So I can't give specific features they want.

I do however have a couple more bugs I have found against the EPEL build, I'll file those in seperate reports.

So, I think I've held this back for too long. Sorry for that.

I'm sort of in a similar situation. Apart from that "my" users have migrated away from wkhtmltopdf with noone to volunteer to even test the new package; so I've done the update now.

In case you'd be willing to maintain the package or know someone who'd like to take over the maintenance, please let me know.

That is kind of funny, my users are thinking about the same thing. However, at the rate things move it would be a good long time.

I could take over maintenance of the package if you like. I haven't maintained a package for Fedora before so I am unsure of what rights etc. I would need, however I have maintained plenty of RPMs outside of fedora so the technical stuff shouldn't be an issue.

You need a "sponsor" that would add you to the "packager" group. I can do that. The sponsor needs to be sure that you're familiar with how RPM packaging is done for Fedora.

Please read through the following link [1] and then let me know what's your FAS user name. If you could show me some examples of your RPM packaging or do some informal reviews of other packages that would be great.

Thank you
