I would like to ask whether we might get an updated version of lightdm-gtk. The Qt version is around 1.8.x while the gtk version is still at 1.6.x. http://smdavis.us/projects/lightdm-gtk-greeter/ What I also like to ask is this (and this is just a thought). While most KDE people use kdm or gdm as display manager. Most others like MATE, XFCE might use either an older gdm display manager or lightdm. What irritates me is, that lightdm-gtk is compiled against gtk3 rather than gtk2 (which still is comonly used in either XFCE environments and MATE). Therefore I would like to request lightdm-gtk in an updated version for GTK2 (if possible). If this (toolkit change) violates against some policy then an updated version would of lightdm-gtk would be nice as long as it won't increase the dependency of what the current version requires. lightdm is the only package on my system (Fedora 20) that requires gtk3 installed for XFCE. Everything else (tools etc) use gtk2. Maybe a split package ? lightdm-gtk2 and lightdm-gtk3 ? So people can chose which to download.
I'll look into it.
lightdm-gtk-1.8.5-8.fc20,lightdm-1.10.2-1.fc20 has been submitted as an update for Fedora 20. https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/lightdm-gtk-1.8.5-8.fc20,lightdm-1.10.2-1.fc20
Package lightdm-kde-0.3.2.1-8.fc20, lightdm-gtk-1.8.5-9.fc20, lightdm-1.10.3-1.fc20: * should fix your issue, * was pushed to the Fedora 20 testing repository, * should be available at your local mirror within two days. Update it with: # su -c 'yum update --enablerepo=updates-testing lightdm-kde-0.3.2.1-8.fc20 lightdm-gtk-1.8.5-9.fc20 lightdm-1.10.3-1.fc20' as soon as you are able to, then reboot. Please go to the following url: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2014-12620/lightdm-kde-0.3.2.1-8.fc20,lightdm-gtk-1.8.5-9.fc20,lightdm-1.10.3-1.fc20 then log in and leave karma (feedback).
The update does NOT work as expected. Once lightdm updates the gtk greeter SPANS over all external displays connected. This was not the case with the previous version. There is no option to disable this.
I solved this issue with: ;--- /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf display-setup-script=xrandr --output VGA-0 --off ;--- Turning external monitor off during lightdm display setup. Unfortunately this wasn't required in the older lightdm version. While I can tweak this in "for my own usage", this still breaks a "general usage" of lightdm.
Thanks, would you mind filing a separate bug to track this specific issue?
