This doesn't happen with Gnome, and it doesn't happen when the home directory is on a local disk. Device icons and icon previews are turned off. I can confirm that this is also a problem RHEL 3 (tested i386 version of ES).
it's fixed in current FC5 release. You should please update to this release.
