    The third example states,
      "Make a copy of songs.tar and novels.tgz in /tmp"

    Its a bit awkward and possibly confusing.  How about:
      "Make copies of songs.tar and novels.tgz in /tmp"
    or
      "Copy the files songs.tar and novels.tgz into the directory /tmp"
