There is no change after removing my xorg.conf with the custom synaptics settings--Xorg still crashes with xorg-x11-drv-synaptics-1.7.7-1.fc20.x86_64. Downgrading back to xorg-x11-drv-synaptics-1.7.6-6.fc20.x86_64 allows X to start normally.
