Description Franco Bugnano 2015-03-28 09:46:01 UTC
Description of problem:
The Calf plugin package has a Fluidsynth LV2 plugin, which is useful in order to have MIDI playback inside the DAW, instead of routing the MIDI output through an external program, like QSynth.
Unfortunately, this plugin is missing from the Fedora RPM.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Fedora 21 x86_64
calf-0.0.19-6.fc21.x86_64
lv2-calf-plugins-0.0.19-6.fc21.x86_64

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install the lv2-calf-plugins package
2. Create a MIDI track in any DAW (for example Ardour3)
3. Try to find the Calf Fluidsynth LV2 plugin for MIDI playback

Actual results:
The Calf Fluidsynth plugin is nowhere to be found

Expected results:
Use the Calf Fluidsynth plugin for MIDI playback

Additional info:
Using any other GM-compatible Sf2 LV2 plugin instead of the Calf Fluidsynth plugin would be OK, but unfortunately I have not found any in the Fedora repositories (including PlanetCCRMA).

Comment 1 Fedora End Of Life 2015-11-04 12:54:03 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 21 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 21. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '21'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 21 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 2 Fedora End Of Life 2015-12-02 10:37:01 UTC
Fedora 21 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-12-01. Fedora 21 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.

Comment 3 Mathieu Bridon 2016-04-23 11:42:49 UTC
Reopening per request of a user who doesn't have permissions.

Comment 4 Alexandre Franke 2016-04-23 11:44:08 UTC
Yep, still an issue in F23. Thanks Mathieu.

Comment 5 Gwyn Ciesla 2016-04-25 16:30:39 UTC
Could you give me a click by click way to verify this in ardour or audacity, so I can experiment?

Comment 6 Alexandre Franke 2016-04-25 16:52:09 UTC
You don't even have to go down such a complicated route to test this.

1. Launch the CALF UI ("Calf plugin package" in your list of applications or calfjackhost from the command line).

2. Go to the "Add plugin" menu.

3. Notice how Fluidsynth is missing in this list.

Comment 7 Gwyn Ciesla 2016-04-25 17:30:57 UTC
Got it, thanks. I'm not seeing a .lv2 folder or a .ttl for it, even in a default build from source from upstream. Is there a dependency needed other than fluidsynth itself?

Comment 8 Mathieu Bridon 2016-04-25 18:40:15 UTC
Upstream lists these as being build dependencies:

 # yum install expat-devel fftw-devel glib2-devel fluidsynth-devel \
     jack-audio-connection-kit libglade2-devel lv2 lv2-devel libtool \
     autoconf gcc-c++ jack-audio-connection-kit-devel

(see http://calf-studio-gear.org/#install)

You seem to already have them all in the spec file. :-/

Comment 9 Gwyn Ciesla 2016-04-25 19:16:26 UTC
Found it. I needed --enable-experimental=yes for configure. Builds coming.

Comment 10 Brendan Jones 2016-04-25 19:58:33 UTC
Thanks Jon for taking this on. I haven't looked at this in a while since upstream dropped ladspa/dssi support. How is this handled now?

Comment 11 Gwyn Ciesla 2016-04-25 20:01:15 UTC
Anytime. AFAICT it's built into the main calf.so, so I've symlinked from the subpackages for compatibility. If this remains the case I'll migrate it all in eventually.
