Please run 'xdg-email' on a command line and show the output and return value($?).
Indicated command launches default email application ( Evolution in my case). It will be removed in a future version. Also, accidentally discovered that pressing CTRL+S in Shutter does open default email app. attaching open file in Shutter. So, I suppose, hot key displayed in Shutter should be changed to CTRL+S
