Package gpx-viewer-0.4.0-8.fc22: * should fix your issue, * was pushed to the Fedora 22 testing repository, * should be available at your local mirror within two days. Another user gave positive feedback (https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2015-9297/gpx-viewer-0.4.0-8.fc22) so it doesn't seem to be a generic issue. If you can reproduce the problem, please open another bug report and if possible, please following the suggestion of the error message and run gpx-viewer in gdb and break on the gdk_x_error() function.
It looks like it's a graphics driver issue (Nvidia here), https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2015-9297/gpx-viewer-0.4.0-8.fc22 works fine on another system having Intel graphics. Filed a new bug with details: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1232592
I can confirm that gpx-viewer-0.4.0-8.fc22 released in updates-testing does now work on my two laptop computers with Intel graphics processors. I no longer have the crash when trying to select a gpx file to load. So this is very good news -- it's been several months since I've been able to use gpx-viewer. However, I too have the issue of gpx-viewer crashing while trying to start on my desktop computer which has an older Nvidia graphics processor (GeForce 7300 LE) with the latest nvidia drivers from the rpmfusion repo.
