Description Carlos O'Donell 2015-04-29 18:49:23 UTC
Description of problem:
Chatzilla starts, but then displays a "ChatZilla run-time error" dialog window with the message:
~~~
TypeError: client.currentObject is undefined @ <chrome://chatzilla/content/static.js> 4618
*
~~~
Clicking "OK" leaves a chatizlla window that lacks any menu entries and looks effectively like a half-started setup that was interrupted. Chatzilla is unusable in this state.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
chatzilla-0.9.87-9.1450hg.fc21.noarch

How reproducible:
Install the selected component version and start it.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run `chatzilla` from the command line.

Actual results:
Chatzilla starts but a run-time error is diplayed, clicking OK leaves a partially started but useless chatzilla.

Expected results:
Chatzilla starts as expected and you get to execute commands and select menu items.

Additional info:
Deleting ~/.chatzilla does not help.

Comment 1 Carlos O'Donell 2015-04-29 18:51:52 UTC
Note that chatzilla (ChatZilla 0.9.91.1) run directly from firefox works (the XPI installed version).

Comment 2 Bill Gianopoulos 2015-05-04 14:37:54 UTC
This would seem to be this upstream bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1108416.

Comment 3 Bill Gianopoulos 2015-05-04 15:04:01 UTC
Downgrading xulrunner to version 33.0-2, which can be found here https://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/releases/21/Everything/ is a workaround.

Comment 4 Bill Gianopoulos 2015-06-06 13:43:07 UTC
The correct fix here is to update the Chatzilla package to version 0.9.91.

Comment 5 Fedora End Of Life 2015-11-04 11:33:55 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 21 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 21. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '21'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 21 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 6 Bill Gianopoulos 2015-11-05 11:41:17 UTC
This issue still exists in fedora 23. It is also still present in current rawhide. Is this package still being maintianed??? The fix here has always been to simply update to the latest upstream version.

Comment 7 Bill Gianopoulos 2015-11-08 15:23:54 UTC
Since I have no ability to update this bug to reflect the severity or that it still includes, i submitted a new bug 1279200.

Comment 8 Jan Kurik 2015-12-02 19:45:19 UTC
Fedora 21 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-12-01. Fedora 21 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
