I have S3 Trio 3D/2X and I can see the following error in the beggining of 
installation process:

/usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_SVGA missing. Falling back to VGA16
Traceback.... 
[cut]
  File "/usr/lib/anaconda/xf86config.py", line 868, in test
    os.execv(args[0], args)
OSError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory
X startup failed, falling back to text mode

So, I had to proceed in TEXT mode with my videocard.
