Output of journalctl -f --all for the failed login attempt (8.63 KB, text/plain)

Description Wolfgang Denk 2015-05-30 14:44:54 UTC
Description of problem:

This happens on a DELL Latitude D820. I hade FC22-beta running
without problems. After the official relase, I ran "dnf update".
No problems indicated. After reboot, when I tried to login, I got the
"Oh no! Something has gone wrong." screen. This happens with all
attempts (i. e. with "Gnome", "Gnome classic" and "Gnome on wayland").

So I decided to reinstall from scratch; when booting from the Fedora
Live DVD (Fedora-Live-Workstation-x86_64-22-3.iso) the very same
happens: I end up with a ""Oh no! Something has gone wrong." screen.

I can imaging that my root file system contains some garbage, as I've
been upgrading using Yum from FC16 or so over the years. But this
should probably not happen when booting from the Fedora Live DVD ...

It also happens when booting from the Fedora Live DVD through
"Troubleshooting" -> "Start Fedora Live in basic graphics mode".

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

gdm-3.16.1.1-1.fc22.x86_64

How reproducible:

Always.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Take a DELL Latitude D820
2. Insert Fedora-Live-Workstation-x86_64-22-3 DVD
3. Boot

Actual results:

"Oh no! Something has gone wrong." screen

Expected results:

Being able to run and install Fedora 22

Additional info:

I checked many of the similar looking bug reports - but this is with
the live DVD, i. e. on a pristine system.

The only hint about something going wrong that I could find in the log files is this PackageKit failure:

Comment 3 Wolfgang Denk 2015-06-25 16:03:54 UTC
Updating to kernel-4.0.5-300 fixes the problem, as well as the
alternative workaround described in [1], but both approaches fix the
problem only for the "Gnome on wayland" configuration, i. e. "Gnome"
and "Gnome classic" are still broken.

I am having the same problem as above and as also described here:

https://ask.fedoraproject.org/en/question/69051/why-do-i-get-the-oh-no-something-has-gone-wrong-screen-when-using-the-fedora-22-live-dvd/

I do not know if it is the exact same issue or not. If it is, is seems to be happening for at least a handful of folks.

I have not tried the "fix" yet but will do so and post my results here.

Comment 5 vblanton@gmail.com 2015-07-02 21:02:28 UTC
Hello again. Posting from a successful application of the "fix" in the live fedora 22-3 workstation iso environment running off of a USB disk

Essentially, same issue as original except running from full release fedora 22 workstation live

fix was in link above, repeated here:
move to virtual terminal: ctrl+alt+f4
login as root
dnf remove xorg-x11-drv-libinput
killall -u liveuser
logout
login as liveuser
startx

works like a charm!

Same problem, fix worked,

Used: Fedora-Live-Workstation-x86_64-22-3.iso

System: Dell T110 PowerEdge Server.

For the systems this affects it is a pretty severe error.

I confirm that the fix (uninstalling xorg-x11-drv-libinput) works for me, too.

same error, uninstalling xorg-x11-drv-libinput worked for me.
(old 5yr old dell xps m1530)

I suggest adding the CommonBugs keyword - I can't add it myself.

Comment 9 vblanton@gmail.com 2015-07-22 23:24:46 UTC
Recently did a full install of Fedora Core 22 using livedvd iso.

Issue fixed by updating entire system (dnf update) in a virtual terminal and rebooting.

Oddly, just updated xorg-x11-drv-libinput first did NOT fix it. Doing the entire update of everything (over 1000 updates) did the trick.

Also, my hardware is nvidia geforce go 7600 graphics card, intel motherboard, as shown above in lspci output.
