This is most probably because the DBus session is not available during start. This seems to happen very randomly, but there is pretty much no way to figure out what's causing it.

The update to KDE 5.4.3 has crashed my complete desktop. I downgraded to 5.3.0. Everything works. Seems to be a problem with the update.
