Description Amit Ugol 2015-06-01 06:13:13 EDT
Description of problem:
On a deployment with no Ceph nodes, issuing overcloud scale stack Cepth-Storage from 0 to any number is trying to scale out Ceph nodes anyway.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
openstack 1.0.3 and heat 0.5.0

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
openstack overcloud scale stack -r Ceph-Storage-1 -n 2 overcloud overcloud

Actual results:
Scaling adds Ceph-Storage correctly (status is UPDATE_COMPLETE) but CephStorageNodesPostDeployment failes.
Its now hard to know for certain if "Storage" works correctly.

Expected results:
Error message at least, saying that the system has no Ceph configured so scaling will not be possible.

I think the expected behaviour here is that it shouldn't be allowed to scale cephstorage from 0 ? Adding jprovazn on CC.
Comment 5 Jan Provaznik 2015-06-05 06:40:38 EDT
We could add some hardcoded check directly into the scale-out command, but I would lean to just put a note into documentation that scaleup from 0 is not supported for now.

Agree with Jan, lets fix the docs for GA and make a permanent fix on 7.1. Re-targeting it and asking for docs.
Comment 8 Jaromir Coufal 2016-01-06 13:42:46 EST
Moving the proper fix to OSP9

Hi Jarda and Mike,

Just saw this BZ. We've got a table indicating what scale scenarios are supported:

https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en/red-hat-openstack-platform/8/paged/director-installation-and-usage/chapter-9-scaling-the-overcloud

Apart from this, is there anything else from the documentation side we need for this BZ?
Comment 13 Jaromir Coufal 2016-08-02 15:11:35 EDT
Nope, it is all covered then.
