Description of problem:
I usually use a DVD to make a backup but with Fedora Core 2 I had some
issues. Every time I put a blank DVD on the DVD I had the same message:

May 24 12:28:01 iglu kernel: hdc: packet command error: status=0x51 {
DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
May 24 12:28:01 iglu kernel: hdc: packet command error: error=0x30
May 24 12:28:01 iglu kernel: ATAPI device hdc:
May 24 12:28:01 iglu kernel: Error: Medium error -- (Sense key=0x03)
May 24 12:28:01 iglu kernel: (reserved error code) -- (asc=0x57,
ascq=0x00)
May 24 12:28:01 iglu kernel: The failed "Read Cd/Dvd Capacity" packet
command was:
May 24 12:28:01 iglu kernel:   "25 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
00 00 00 "

The funny thing is with Fedora Core 1 and the same model of DVDs all
works fine. What I'm doing wrong?

stop magicdev or autorun. Those utilities check the media every 2
seconds. If a blank DVD is inserted, the above error is likely to be
logged, but should not cause any harm.

Comment 2 José Salgado 2004-06-15 10:59:10 UTC
I've stopped magivdev and autorun but I sill can't be able to burn CD
or DVDs

Comment 3 Harald Hoyer 2004-06-15 11:50:50 UTC
how do you try to do this?

Comment 4 José Salgado 2004-06-18 11:39:11 UTC
/etc/init.d/autofs stop

and rpm -e magicdev :)

But right now I'm fighting with Sony Custome Care about the DVD issue
because that problem doesn't have any relation with linux, it come
from the machine, so you can close the bug.
