Description Joachim Backes 2015-10-22 04:53:29 UTC
Description of problem:

I try to burn an Fedota23 TC11 iso image to a not empty DVD: K3B tries to reformat the DVD, but this fails, and the DVD is unusable for K3B.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

k3b-2.0.3-5.fc23.x86_64

How reproducible:
always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Drag the F23 TC11 image to the "Burn Image ..." button
2.Load the DVD and press
3.K3B Message:
Found DVD-RW Sequential medium in HL-DT-ST - DVDRAM GH20NS15. Should it be
  formatted?
4.Pressing "Format" button
5. Formatting preceeds to 100%
6. Result: Erasing failed

Actual results:
DVD cannot be blanked

Expected results:
Image is burned after a correct formatting

Additional info:
Using brasero blanks the DVD and burns the image properly.

Comment 1 Joachim Backes 2015-10-22 11:53:08 UTC
If I use a CD-RW instead, which has to be blanked too, K3B burns properly!

Comment 2 Joachim Backes 2015-10-22 12:12:43 UTC
If blanking the DVD separately by "wodim -v dev=/dev/sr0 blank=fast", then the image will written immediately without any flaw!

Comment 3 Kevin Kofler 2015-10-23 00:16:02 UTC
According to the debugging log, what command is K3b trying to run?

This is the debugging output after "erasing failed", nothing more.

Comment 5 Joachim Backes 2015-10-23 06:59:12 UTC
After the message "erasing failed" is closed, I can burn, but if the the "success" message appears, the progress bar (top-left on screen) is not complete.

Here is the copy of the complete debugging output:

Comment 7 Fedora End Of Life 2016-11-24 12:52:05 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 23 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 23. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '23'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 23 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.
