Description of problem: Rebooted laptop machine and closed the lid immediately after logging in. GNOME did not suspend the machine, although it is set to do so when the lid is closed. Opened the laptop back up (the screen was turned off, however) and then the shell was very slow and unresposive before crashing entirely, leaving me with an apparently different instance of the shell.
