Description of problem:

It would be useful to have profiling support for leak checking etc.
I assume it's not available by default for performance reasons, and so should
be in a separate version of the library.

I added that to the EPEL6 version I'm using with the attached patch (against
the current Fedora repo).  I assume similar changes would work for rawhide's
v 4, but I haven't tried.
