Red Hat Bugzilla – Bug 129568
Meta-F opens file menu, doesn't jump forward one word
Last modified: 2007-11-30 17:10:47 EST
Description of problem:
Those who would use the terminal (i.e. those who know what they're
doing and most likely coming from a command line backrgound on
UNIX/Linux) would expect Meta-f to jump one word forward on the
command line, not bring down the file menu.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
2.6.0 (and before, and after)
File menu appears
jump forward one word on command line
This is one place where the HIG should probably be broken, and the
expected behaviour be implemented instead...
I do acknowledge that this is a contentious issue.
Possibly, one solution is to have a dialog pop up the first time a
user hits one of the magic key combinations (such as Meta-f) asking
them what they'd like the behaviour to be. This would satisfy those of
us who are attracted to the new, shinier gnome-terminal :)
By default normal keybindings are supported so the terminal can be
used without the mouse (and generally behaves as expected).
In Edit->Keybindings you can disable them.
