Created attachment 1119207 [details] /etc/pinforc patch to set CLEAR-SCREEN-AT-EXIT=false Description of problem: Pinfo displays debug messages: $ pinfo make Przemek's Info Viewer v0.6.10 Searching for indirect done Searching for tag table done Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): pinfo-0.6.10-12.fc23.x86_64 How reproducible: Always. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Disable the option to clear the screen in /etc/pinforc: -CLEAR-SCREEN-AT-EXIT=true +CLEAR-SCREEN-AT-EXIT=false (Attachment has full patch.) 2. $ pinfo make 3. Press "q" to quit pinfo. Actual results: Debug messages are displayed: Searching for indirect done Searching for tag table done Expected results: Debug messages are not displayed. Additional info: In the default configuration, CLEAR-SCREEN-AT-EXIT=true. The debug messages are still displayed when the screen is cleared, and they can be seen by scrolling back in the terminal window.
I can't see why is this a problem.
(In reply to Lukáš Nykrýn from comment #1) > I can't see why is this a problem. Those debug messages are meaningless to the user, and there is no way to disable them. There is an undocumented "VERBOSE" option that is accessible through the pinforc file, but it only controls the display of the "Przemek's Info Viewer v0.6.10" message: $ grep -r VERBOSE pinfo-0.6.10/ pinfo-0.6.10/src/parse_config.c: else if (!strncmp(temp, "VERBOSE", 7)) Compare the "info" command, which is completely quiet by default: $ info make $ info --debug=1 make info: looking for file "make" info: looking for file make in /usr/share/info info: found file /usr/share/info/make.info.gz
Created attachment 1119482 [details] /etc/pinforc patch to disable CLEAR-SCREEN-AT-EXIT and to disable VERBOSE This patch sets these options in /etc/pinforc: CLEAR-SCREEN-AT-EXIT=false VERBOSE=false With this patch, the two debug messages are still displayed: $ pinfo make Searching for indirect done Searching for tag table done
(In reply to Steve from comment #3) ... > With this patch, the two debug messages are still displayed: ... There appear to be two test cases: 1. In a terminal window, the debug messages are displayed. 2. In a console (ctrl-alt-f2), no debug messages are displayed.
(In reply to Steve from comment #3) ... > VERBOSE=false ... Disabling VERBOSE breaks the "version" option: $ pinfo --version $
This message is a reminder that Fedora 23 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 23. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '23'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 23 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
