Description of problem: Trying upgrade my PC to F23/i686, it seems as xorg-x11-drv-sis is missing in distro. Expected results: This driver should be in Fedora distro.
Hi, You're right that xorg-x11-drv-sis is not a part of Fedora 23, this is intentional. We (the graphics team) have decided to only support kernel-mode setting drivers in Fedora 23 (and later). This has been announced on the fedora-devel mailinglist, and when we announced this we also asked for community members to step up and maintain the non kms drivers (like the sis driver) if they wanted to keep these drivers as part of Fedora 23. Unfortunately no-one stepped up to maintain the sis driver. If you're interested in seeing the sis driver as part of Fedora 23 and later, I suggest that you become a Fedora package maintainer and maintain the driver yourself. I'm willing to help you by reviewing the xorg-x11-drv-sis package when you submit it and sponsoring you as a packager once that is done. For the procedure to become a packager see: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Join_the_package_collection_maintainers?rd=PackageMaintainers/Join Note the list looks longer then it is, many steps are very simple like "create an account". When you get to the step where it is time to create a package, I suggest you start with the F-22 src.rpm file, update that to the latest version and maybe clean it up a bit. Also please send a mail to the fedora-devel list announcing your intent to unretire xorg-x11-drv-sis, as documented here: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Orphaned_package_that_need_new_maintainers#Claiming_Ownership_of_a_Retired_Package And read that page in general, since you will not be submitting a new package, but instead unretiring an existing pkg, the procedure is mostly the same though. Once you've submitted a review-request for the new cleaned up version, you can mark this bug as a duplicate of that bug, and drop me mail that the pkg is ready for review. Regards, Hans
