Description Eko 2016-03-15 08:23:10 UTC
Description of problem:
now there is a guest on hyper-v, this guest was registered to satellite and subscribed; next, I will create a VM template from this guest, that means the template is registered to satellite.
and then I will create some guests based on this template, login to these guests, will find these guests still registered and subscribed, have the same identity and same consumed bonus pool.
but we can't find these guests from satellite web ui

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
latest-stable-Satellite-6.1-RHEL-7
virt-who-0.16-5.el6.noarch
subscription-manager-1.16.8-3.el6.x86_64
python-rhsm-1.16.6-1.el6.x86_64

How reproducible:
always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. install a guest(rhel7.2) on hyper-v, register and subscribe it to satellite

2. make it as a template (rhel7.2_template)

3. create a new guest(rhel7.2_t1) based on the template

4. virt-who can fetch and send the new host/guests mapping info to satellite

5. login the new guest, can find it's still register and subscribe, but if check it on the satellite web UI, there is no changes, can't find the new guest id from sat web ui

Actual results:
guests still registered and subscribed, but can't find the guests from satellite web ui

Expected results:
don't know what is the expected results, is there any strategy or limitation for this situation?

Using templates still requires that each guest be registered separately. If you are registering each guest created from the template separately please attach the results of "rhsm-debug system" from two of the systems showing the problem and I'll be able to help more.

hi, this is a GSS customer issue, the GSS team and customers are confused about the registered template, please refer to:
http://pastebin.gsslab.fab.redhat.com/mypaste/953T/

if possible, could we add some document notes to the satellite release note?

Comment 3 Eko 2017-02-15 08:45:56 UTC
Import virtual machines from hyper-v template(copy the virtual machine, create a unique ID),
all the VMs have different IP , but virt-who still return the same guest-id to register satellite.

Hi,

Thank you for raising this bug, and my apologies that we have not been able to address this request.

Based on the description above, this bug appears to be asking for instructions on how to correctly set up cloud images for deployment through Satellite.

We are working on a similar request in BZ#1245041, so I will close this bug as a duplicate.

If you have any additional requests or comments on this topic, please add them to the bug mentioned and we will follow up there.

Kind regards,

Andrew
