Description Terry A. Hurlbut 2016-03-15 14:38:37 UTC
Created attachment 1136641 [details]
Detail of bottom right of display showing various icons, including one for Mozilla Thunderbird (with FireTray extension), barely recognizable between the icons for PwManager (left) and Skype (right).

Description of problem:

System tray displays its newest icons at regular size. But some icons formerly displayable only in "wmsystemtray," and specifically the FireTray icons for Mozilla Thunderbird and Firefox, suddenly show with only 4 or 5 pixels on a side. This makes them unreadable and nearly indistinguishable on a 1920 x 1080 display.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:

Since the most recent upgrade (14 March), the ultra-tiny icons appear constantly after you log out and log in, and never grow to full size.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Accept the latest upgrade of kde and especially of the plasma-workspace packages.

2. Log out.

3. Log back in.

Actual results:

Ultra-tiny icons, barely recognizable, and in some cases illegible.

Expected results:

FireTray icons of a size similar to those of other KDE applets, like Klipper, network management, and IM.

For skype at least, to avoid relying on legacy xembed systray support, rather install instead:

dnf install sni-qt.i686

So Qt4 apps (like skype) can use modern StatusNotifier protocols

Comment 2 Terry A. Hurlbut 2016-03-15 15:27:25 UTC
The package is already in place on my system. (I just checked by running the command.) As you can see, Skype works fine. It's the Mozilla FireTray that doesn't work so fine. It was working before the last upgrade. So the most recent upgrade "broke" it--or rather, shrank it so I can barely see it. It still responds as it should, to mouse clicks and so on. But I can't read the number of unread messages I have.

Comment 3 Rex Dieter 2016-03-15 15:54:49 UTC
I misread your initial comment that skype was affected too, sorry

Comment 4 Terry A. Hurlbut 2016-03-15 15:56:37 UTC
Did you get the partial screencap I attached to this bug? If you display it on Gwenview or some such, you'll see all the icons I have, and the tiny icon, no bigger than a flyspeck, that is the Thunderbird icon. That's what I'm trying to correct.

Comment 5 Rex Dieter 2016-03-15 15:58:49 UTC
yes
